Overall
Tournament Rules (Applies to all divisons)
Both games for each ticket
must be played in succession on the same machine.
In the event of a machine failure,
that game will be replayed on another machine.
Additional entries will be
available for $5.00 per ticket.
Flip Out ticket sales end at
5.30 PM Saturday. No refunds will be issued on unused tickets.
No tournament games shall start
after 5.30PM Saturday and the Exhibit Hall closes at 6.00PM.
Any and all Pinball Expo staff
members are not eligible to compete.
There will be two lines of
tournament games. The first line consists of games from the 90's. The
second line will feature games from 50's & 60's. The next player in
line will play on the first machine available.
Note: Women's and youth scores
will also be eligible to qualify in the players division. To transfer
your scores to the players divison contact one of the Flip Out Officials.
All decisions of Flip Out Officials
are final.
Players
Division Tournament Rules
(Anyone
currently employed by a pinball manufacturing company is not eligible for
this category.)
Tournament is open to all Pinball
Expo Attendees.
Each Flip Out ticket will entitle
player to two games.
Preliminary Tournament is designed
for singles completition with the top sixteen scorers advancing to the
quater-finals. Note: Each player can only hold one position.
Each of the 16 quarter-finalists
will compete in a head-to-head competition with random drawings to determine
which machines they will play on.
A coin toss will determine
who will play first. The highest ranking player will call the toss and
the winner of the toss will decide who will go first in the next game.
The winner of the first and/or
second game will decide who will go first in the next game.
Each pair of quarter-finalists
will play their designated game with the best two out of three scores
advancing to the semi-finals.
The four winners from each
bracket will once again complete in head-to-head competition. The player
having the best two out of three scores advances to the finals.
The final two contestants in
each bracket will play on a game designated by the Flip Out Tournament
Official. The player having the best two out of three scores will be declared
the winner and crowned Flip Out 2000 Player (A or B)Division Champion.
The two remaining semi-finalists
will play off for third and fourth positons.
If you tilt a game that carries
the tilt to the next player, you automatically disqualify yourself from
that game.
Players must be ready to play
when their group is called. Failure to appear within 5 minutes of designation
time will be grounds for forfieture.
Manufacturers
Division Tournament Rules. (Currently employed by a
Pinball Manufacturing Company.)
Tournament is open to all pinball
manufacturer attendees.

division with the exception of eight quarter finalists only.
Seniors
Division(55 and Over) Tournament Rules

players division with a prize bring awarded to the highest score in the
preliminaries.
Youth Division
(16 and under) Tournament Rules.

preliminaries.
Tot Division
(5 and Under) Tournament Rules.

preliminaries.
60's
and 70's Division Tournament Rules.
Same rules apply as
players division with a prize bring awarded to the highest score in the
preliminaries.
World Cup
Division - International Competition.
Tournament is open to all Non-USA
Pinball Expo 2000 Attendees.
Same rules apply as players
division with prizes bring awarded to the highest scorers in the preliminaries.
Machine
Malfunctions: (quarter-finals through finals)
Major: A malfunction
is considered major if play of game cannot be completed (ex. machine shuts
down, locks up, gets into endless loop, software malfunctions, etc.).
Minor: A malfunction
is considered minor if play can continue (ex. stuck ball, stuck switch)
Major
Malfunction Rules: A technican will be called to try to
determine the problem and fix the machine.If the malfunction can be corrected,
the game will be replayed by both contestants. In the event one of the
contestants finished their game prior to the malfunction occured, that
contestants sorce will stand. The player who did not complete the game
will replay te game over.If the malfunction cannot be corrected, a new
machine will be designated and the game will be replayed by both contestants
Minor
Malfunction Rules: Stuck switch -If a switch becomes stuck
during game play, the game will be played to completion before a repair
attempt is made. Once the game is complete, a technician will attempt
to recify the problem. If it can't be repaired, the rest of the games
will be played on a machine designated by Flip Out Officials.Stuck ball
-If a ball gets stuck during play, the ball will be retrieved and placed
in the shootslane and play will continue.
